Version history and retention overview

Page last updated 14 August 2026

Contensis keeps a version history for every entry, recording who changed what and when. Version history is switched on by default for every content type, and by default every version is kept indefinitely.

You can change whether new content types start with version history on or off, override that for individual content types, and set retention limits to control how many old versions are kept.

What you can configure

Permissions

Changing the project defaults for version history and retention requires System Administrator permission. Overriding version history for a content type requires update and publish permission on content types.
