Override version history for a content type

Page last updated 14 August 2026

The project default decides how new content types start out, but you can override it for individual content types.

  • New content types start with version history set to the project default. You can change it before you save the content type for the first time.
  • Existing content types show whatever value is currently saved for them, whether that came from the project default at the time or a later override.
  • Saving this setting only updates the content type's version history value. It doesn't change any other content type settings.

Before you start

You must have update and publish permission on content types to update the content type configuration.

Turn version history on or off

  1. Open the content type.
  2. In the toolbar on the right of the editor, select the Settings (gear) icon.
  3. Under Version history, use the Enable version history toggle.
  4. Save your changes, then Publish.
