Create a custom attribute

Log in to add to favourites

To personalise content for audiences using your own data, you’ll need to create a custom attribute. Custom attributes allow you to define visitor characteristics that go beyond the standard signal attributes, giving you greater flexibility when building signals and audiences.

Creating custom attributes is restricted to users who have a role with Create and Update permission for custom attributes.

Follow these steps to create a custom attribute:

  1. Navigate to the Custom attributes screen, select Personalisation from the sidebar, then choose Custom attributes from the menu.
  2. Create a new custom attribute from the page header by pressing New custom attribute. The custom attribute editor will open.
  3. Provide the required details
    • Name: Give your custom attribute a clear, descriptive name to help identify it when building signals.
    • API ID: Enter a unique API ID for the attribute, it will be prefixed with custom.
    • Description (optional): Add a description to clarify the purpose of the custom attribute.
    • Type: Select the type of data the attribute will hold, such as Text, Number, or Boolean.
  4. Save your custom attribute to make your custom attribute available for use in signals.
