Archive and unarchive an asset

Archiving an asset hides it from the default asset views, so authors won't come across it when browsing or picking assets. Archive an asset when you want to take it out of circulation without deleting it, keeping it available for future reference or reuse.

To archive or unarchive assets, you must be a member of a role with an Assets permission and the archive or unarchive action enabled.

The archive confirmation dialog shows how many entries use the asset, and View usage opens the asset usage panel so you can see which ones. Archiving does not change those entries, but the count is a useful check before you take an asset out of circulation.

1. Select Assets from the project sidebar to open the asset listing.
2. Locate the asset you want to archive, either by scrolling through the grid or by using the search.
3. To open the asset editor, select the asset or choose Open from the actions menu on the asset card.
4. In the editor toolbar, select Actions (the triple-dot icon), then choose Archive.
5. Review the Archive asset confirmation, which shows how many entries use the asset, and select Archive.

A notification confirms the asset has been archived. The asset is hidden from the default asset views, so authors won't come across it when browsing or picking assets.

3. Select the actions menu (the triple-dot icon) on the asset card, then choose Archive.
4. Review the Archive asset confirmation, which shows how many entries use the asset, and select Archive.

Unarchiving an asset returns it to the default asset views. It appears in the asset listing again and can be picked for new content.

1. Select Assets from the project sidebar to open the asset listing.
2. Under the Publish status filter, tick Archived to show archived assets.
3. To open the asset editor, select the asset or choose Open from the actions menu on the asset card.
4. In the editor toolbar, select Actions (the triple-dot icon), then choose Unarchive.
5. Review the Unarchive asset confirmation and select Unarchive.

A notification confirms the asset has been unarchived. The asset returns to the asset listing and can be picked for new content again.

1. Select Assets from the project sidebar to open the asset listing.
2. Under the Publish status filter, tick Archived.
3. Select the actions menu (the triple-dot icon) on the card for the asset you want to unarchive, then choose Unarchive.
4. Review the Unarchive asset confirmation and select Unarchive.

A notification confirms the asset has been unarchived. The asset returns to the asset listing and can be picked for new content again.
