Create a campaign

Creating a campaign sets up the plan. You add the forms and pages you want to measure afterwards, from the campaign's own page.
You need the Create action on the Campaigns permission. Without it the New campaign button does not appear. See Set campaign permissions.
Create a campaign
- Select Campaigns in the sidebar.
- Select New campaign. The Create a campaign window opens.
- Enter a Campaign name. This is required, and it has to be different from every other campaign name in the project.
- Check the UTM Campaign ID. Contensis fills this in for you as a simplified version of the campaign name, so a campaign called Summer Product Launch 2026 gets the campaign ID
summer-product-launch-2026. You can change it, and it is required. - Enter a Primary goal if you have one, for example Increase page visitors by 10%. It appears at the top of the campaign so everyone looking at it knows what success means.
- Set the Date range. Select the field to open the calendar and choose a start and end date. This is required.
- Start typing in Campaign owner and select a user from the list.
- Select Create campaign.
Contensis creates the campaign and opens it, ready for you to add tracking.
Getting the name right first time
The campaign name does more work than it looks. Contensis uses it to generate the UTM Campaign ID, and the campaign ID is what your campaign links will carry.
Once a campaign has been created, changing the name does not update the tracking ID. The two are only connected at the moment you first type the name. So if you rename a campaign later you will have a name and a tracking ID that no longer resemble each other, which could be confusing for everyone who comes after you.
It is worth settling on the name before you create the campaign rather than treating it as something to tidy up later.
Dates you can and cannot choose
A campaign has to start in the future. If you try to set a start date in the past you will see A campaign must be created in the future.
More importantly, the date range stops being fully editable the moment the campaign starts:
- While the campaign is upcoming, you can change both dates.
- Once it is active, the start date is locked. You will see Start date cannot be changed for an active campaign.
- Once it has ended, both dates are locked. You will see Campaign dates cannot be changed when a campaign has ended.
This matters more than it sounds, because the campaign's date range is also the window Contensis counts within. Getting it wrong and only noticing after launch leaves you with a campaign you cannot fully correct.
