Image quality

The quality or q parameter provides control over the compression level of images. The value is a whole number between 1 and 100, where a lower number represents a lower-quality output image with a smaller file size and vice-versa. Values below 1 or above 100 are brought into that range, and a value that is not a whole number is ignored, leaving the default in place.

The parameter applies to JPEG and WebP images only. PNG, GIF and TIFF have no detail to trade for file size, so the quality value is ignored and each is written at a fixed compression level. Where no quality is given the defaults are 75 for JPEG and 80 for WebP.

Quality is applied when the image is written, after every other transformation, wherever it appears in the URL.
