Delete and restore an asset

Deleting an asset moves it to the recycle bin. It is removed from the asset library and can no longer be selected in entries, but it can be restored until it is permanently deleted.

1. Select Assets from the project sidebar.
2. Select the actions menu on the asset card, then choose Delete.
3. Review the Delete asset? confirmation, which shows how many entries use the asset, and select Delete asset.

1. Open the asset.
2. Select Actions in the toolbar, then choose Delete.
3. In the Delete asset? window, select View usage if you want to check where the asset is used first, or Delete to confirm.

Once deleted, you're returned to the asset listing.

If you've accidentally deleted an asset, you can restore it from the recycle bin until it is permanently deleted. The asset recycle bin follows the same retention period as the entry recycle bin. Restoring an asset moves it from the recycle bin back into the asset listing. You need Delete/restore permission for the asset's content type, in the asset's language, to see and restore it from the recycle bin.

1. Press Settings in the sidebar. The Settings menu opens, revealing a number of options.
2. Select Recycle bin to open the recycle bin listing.
3. Locate the asset you want to restore in the listing.
4. Select the Actions button for the asset (the triple-dot icon). A dropdown menu opens.
5. Select Restore asset in the menu. A Restore your asset confirmation window appears.
6. Select Restore to confirm. The asset is restored from the recycle bin and available again from the asset listing.

Once an asset is in the recycle bin, the delete action becomes Permanently delete.

1. Find the asset in the recycle bin and open it.
2. Select Actions, then Permanently delete.
3. Confirm.

Deleting requires delete permission for the asset's content type, in the asset's language. If you lack it, the confirmation window explains that you do not have permission and offers no confirm button.
