Edit a tracked item

You can change the settings on a form or page you are already tracking, as long as the campaign has not ended.
You need the Update action on the Campaigns permission.
Edit a tracked item
- Open the campaign and find the card for the form or page you want to change.
- Select the actions button on the card.
- Select Edit tracking. The Edit form tracking or Edit page tracking window opens with the current settings filled in.
- Change the target, the UTM source, or the UTM medium.
- Select Save changes.
You cannot change which form or page a card points at. To track something else, add it as a new tracked item and remove the old one.
Once a campaign has ended
Edit tracking is not available on a campaign that has ended, whatever your permissions. The same applies to Remove tracking and to adding new tracking. A finished campaign is a read-only record.
Changing a target
Changing the target changes what the progress is measured against. The count stays as it is, and the percentages, the progress bar, and the status all recalculate against the new number. Raising a target on a campaign that was on track can move it to behind, which is expected rather than a problem.
Changing the source or medium
Changing the source or medium does something different from changing the target, and it is worth understanding before you do it.
The count does not move across with the card. Source and medium are part of what the card is looking for, so changing either changes which responses it counts. The number is worked out again from scratch against the new combination.
In practice that means:
- The count can drop sharply, or to zero. If you change the medium from Paid search to Organic search, the responses collected under paid search no longer match, so they stop being counted. The card starts reporting on organic search alone, which may be nothing at all
- It can also rise. If the new combination matches traffic the campaign has already collected, those responses count immediately, even though they arrived before you made the change
So editing a source or medium is not a way of refining a number. It repoints the card at a different set of responses.
Nothing is lost, and the change is reversible
This sounds more alarming than it is, and the reason is worth knowing.
Campaign figures are not stored totals. They are worked out from the responses that exist, every time you look. So an edit does not delete anything. The responses are all still there with their context intact, and the card is looking at a different subset of them.
If you change a source or medium and the number collapses, change it back and the number returns. You have not lost the campaign's history, you have changed the question being asked of it.
The same is true in the other direction. If a card was pointed at the wrong combination for a fortnight, correcting it does not leave a fortnight-shaped hole. The correct responses are counted from the moment you fix it, including the ones that arrived while the setting was wrong.
See Understanding campaign performance for more on why campaign figures behave this way.
Duplicate combinations
The same rule applies as when adding tracking. If your edit would produce a combination of form or page, source, and medium that the campaign is already tracking, Contensis stops you with:
